Comets
Czech & Slovak comet discoverers
Milo Tichý
Milo Tichý (* 1966)
is a Czech astronomer. He works at Kle Observatory near České Budějovice.
He is a co-founder of project KLENOT to search NEO objects. His name carries
the periodic comet, which he discovered in 2000 and then recovered at its
next apparition in 2008.
Milo Tichý was born in 1966. He graduated astronomy at Masaryk University
in Brno. He had taken part on several astronomical projects on Kle Observatory
since 1984 during his students years. As a researcher he works
at Kle from 1992. His main research field is astrometry of minor planets
and comets with focus on NEO objects. In 1994 he managed to add a
new CCD camera to the Maksutov telescope.
He discovered
hundreds of minor planets since then, as for September 2009 he has 448
asteroids with permanent number.
He found a new periodic comet in 2000 - P/2000 U6. Milo Tichý searched for the
comet at its next apparition by his own computed ephemerides and he
rediscovered it in 2008 as P/2008 C2 Tichý.
Milo Tichý is co-founder of web pages www.planetky.cz and www.komety.cz.
In cooperation with CBAT and MPC he regurarly confirms new discoveries of comets.
Together with Z. Sekanina they studied disintegration process of comets nuclei.
Milo Tichý is married, his wife Jana Tichá is astronomer too.
Asteroid 3337
discovered by Lubo Kohoutek on 1971, 26. Oct. at Bergedorfe was named in his honour
(3337) Milo.
(3337) Milo = 1971 UG1
Discovered 26. Oct. 1971 by L. Kohoutek at Bergedorf Observatory.
Named in honour of Milo Tichý (1966- ), Czech astronomer at the Kle Observatory.
He is known for his work on minor planets and comets, discoveries of minor planets
and confirmations and follow-up of NEO´s (near-earth obejcts). In 1994 his technical
expertize allowed the upgrade of Kle observations with CCD camera. Name prposed
following a suggestion by his wife, jana Tichá, on the occassion of htr 15th
anniversary of his first student assignement at Kle in 1984.
